Introducing my newest sibling - meet Izzy!

In order to balance the cat-dog ratio in my domaine a bit more, I encouraged my lady to take in this pretty lady.  I'll tell you more about her story soon!

Halloween week fashion!

I'm rocking a black and orange wardrobe this week to celebrate Halloween.  My newest sweater is modeled below.

11 MONTHS?

It has come to my attention that my ghost writer has taken a Very Long Break from passing on important Lukie news to my minions.  I can assure you, I have told her in no uncertain terms that this has made me very, very unhappy.  But, on a happier note, I'm BACK!  And I'm watching you... from over here... in this box of toys.

The Lady Gigi

I'm sure you've noticed it has been almost three months since I posted here.  I know that's unusual - words usually pour out of me, at the same fast pace I live my a-list life.  The last few months have been filled with all the things a move brings - and I will catch y'all up on that.  But, today I must write about something so much more important than my comings and goings - I write about my eldest sibling.  I know that I usually post about all of my siblings, with my signature wit and a bit of mockery.  Well, I could never write about Gigi because she defied my mocking style.  Her dignity was an example even to me.

As I understand it, my mum got an email about the cats needing a home in mid-summer 2010.  They were all kittens, and people quickly adopted them...except the last on the list.  Saving the best for last, my Gigi was at the very end.  She was 15, declawed (amputated), and abandoned.  Why?  I can't imagine.  We brought her home.  For almost three and a half years, she filled our home with her lovely arias, and offered affection to anyone who came within her field of vision.  She sought out the sunlight, and basked in its generous warmth.  She deserved it.

She let go of the past life, the one that abandoned her in the South LA shelter.  She embraced her new family, and brought joy to every day of the last few years.

I hope you will all think of Gigi when you consider adopting a pet - please think about the wisdom a senior cat or dog can offer you.

Gigi - our time together wasn't long enough - but then, forever wouldn't have been either.  You always reminded us that humans who make poor choices don't define us.  You exemplified dignity, and you always had a lovely yowl when I was feeling less than amazing (not that I EVER feel less than amazing.  Let's face it.  I was born that way).  You leave me almost speechless, except to say...

Thank you.

In today's edition, Sly climbs a tree in a failed effort to get to a squirrel that is much, much higher in the tree.  Meanwhile, I supervise.

New Column: FAN ART!

As with all heroes and celebrities in history, there is a multitude of images of me floating around.  I thought I should take this opportunity to honor some of my favorite homages with a new column.  Today, I present...tiny Lukie earrings!

Thanks to Nick Hart for commissioning these truly beautiful works of art!

Internet sensations I've been following!

While I don't expect other dogs to reach my level of awesome, I do have to applaud some of my favorite internet kitty sensations.

For example, Lil BUB is great - and like me, here on a mission much greater than just being adorable.  Henri and I could clearly have a good conversation on the existential angst that arises from being so superior to all around us.  I personally believe that Bertrum is among the rare cat trained in the Lukie Lukie Hua Hua ways - his level of strategic sophistication makes him a strong ally.

Which internet cats are you following these days?  I'm always looking for entertainment!  That is, in the rare moment when I'm not entertained by my own awesomeness.

Happy Monday!

A Fond Goodbye

I know from me you've come to expect wit and wisdom.  But today, all I have is a bit of an ache in my heart.  A little more than a month ago, we had to say goodbye to the marvelous, perfect Mr. William.  He was beyond special - from New York street cat to loving companion and happy Southern California retiree.  I couldn't bring myself to write about it until now.  He was brave through it all - diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, high blood pressure, major oral infections - and enjoyed life in a way that inspired us all to see the brighter side.  He was a retort to anyone who thought buying a bred pet was the way to go - the best ones, you see, find their way to you, their pedigree comprised of personality and perseverance.  He's missed all the time - even by me, a chihuahua.  RIP William the Bloody.

The Good Life Continues...

The very first post on this blog showed me enjoying a vacation in Palm Springs shortly after my lady had the good sense to allow me to own her.  Shortly after our third anniversary, we went back to the desert.  Here's me looking beautiful by the pool:

Yet Another Very Lukie Grievance

Today my lady has thoroughly disappointed me.  I don't like to speak ill of the inferior, but I do feel the need to get this off my chest.

First, my lady takes us to the car.  Of course, I ride inside (no thank you, Romney).  BUT, my lady insists I sit in the back seat, not on her lap while she's driving.  Well, I think, at least we are going somewhere fun.

WRONG.  Second, we get to the Bone Yard, which is closed for new lighting.  So, we return home - my lady promising a trip to Runyon tomorrow morning.  Not, mind you, in addition to a trip there today, but INSTEAD of one today.  So, I'm all dressed up with no place to go.  Then, like it is some substitute, my lady then takes us on a lame Palms walk like we get four times a day ANYWAY.  Clearly, we already should be getting five walks a day, so this is no consolation at all, just a fulfillment of a duty.

Third, when we get back, my lady attempts to give me an ORGANIC SWEET POTATO TREAT.  Always looking to expand my knowledge, I asked innocently, "what part of the pig does the sweet potato come from?"

The answer?  It is a root vegetable.

I am seriously displeased and can only hope this evening holds better things.

Rerun: A(nother) Very Lukie Grievance

Please refer to my post of November 14, 2011.  You failed me again.  That's two strikes (to draw from a different sport for a metaphor).  I'd be very, very careful next time you meet USC, Huskies.

The Wisdom of the Lukie Part XIII

"Every day is a good day to be alive, whether the sun's shining or not." - Mary Robbins

"Every day is a good day to be a Lukie, whether the sun's shining of not.  For Lukie's minions, on the other hand, the day will be a whole lot better if they make sure that the sun shines for Lukie." - LLHH
